Cantine 138 Avenue Rd 416 923 4822
The cousins like to have periodic reunions. There is a lot of laughter and stories to retell. We have a lot of fun. We have our cousin C to thank for this latest reunion. He organized it all and we were thrilled and most appreciative.
Cantine was the perfect venue. Joe Bersani has been chef/manager/owner of this favorite restaurant for many years. He walks about and chats with the guests. You are made to feel like part of a family.
Several of us live in the neighborhood and a few of the guests claim they dine here at least once a week. It is a lovely walk to the corner of Davenport and Avenue Rd. This is the hub for meeting in the Annex. The food is exquisite. The service is always delightful.
It is a busy spot. There were a lot of people but we were content that we were not too noisy and the other diners certainly did not bother us. Ten of us were able to get together. The restaurant accommodates a large group very efficiently.
Conrad was our server. He had charm, humor and patience in looking after this large group. We thank him for all the attention and great service.
Would you believe I don’t even look at the menu when I come here? My favorite dish is the Grilled Tuna Salad served with wasabi mayonnaise. I am still salivating thinking about it. Large chunks of freshly grilled Ahi tuna melt in your mouth. The greens are fresh and lightly flavored with tasty vinaigrette. Why would I order anything else when I enjoy this perfect dish so much?
At dinner I have enjoyed Grilled Yellow Fin Tuna with wasabi, avocado and tomato salsa.($20.95)
My brother enjoyed the Salad Nicoise.($13.95) Solid white tuna, green beans, tomato, egg, potato and artichoke heart are served on fresh crisp greens. I noticed two of the guests were enjoying their Cobb Salad and another cousin ordered a fresh Salad with Goat Cheese. It was all so delicious.
Steamed P.E.I Mussels are a house specialty. ($11.95) They are prepared in white wine, shallots, lemon, parsley and butter.
Penne with Grilled Chicken and Asparagus is served in a light saffron cream sauce.($14.95)
The Pizzas are served fresh from the pizza oven. Marguerite Pizza is flavored with a tomato sauce, fresh basil and bocconcini cheese.($11.95)
Try and save some room for a Key Lime Pie or a Chocolate Biscotti. How delicious!
There is something for everyone.
Some guests stop by for a drink and a little nibble. The front of the restaurant features comfortable deep chairs. It is great to relax and watch all the action while having a light snack and drink.
Joe Bersani has made this a ‘go to place’ in the Annex. It has never let me down. The cousins had a memorable lunch and a great visit. Thanks to our cousin for being the gracious generous host. Thanks to Cantine for being the best in the neighborhood. What a treat.
