How Do You Know

I’m not sure you really want to know. If you keep in mind the fact that all the A list films have probably been released hoping for Oscar nods. That means that most films that open from now on are on the B list. The audience laughed throughout the film and it was mildly entertaining. Reese Witherspoon is adorable and so I forgive her acting in this whimsical comedy. She plays the part of Lisa. Her boyfriend is played by Owen Wilson, a professional sportsman. He is also a player of another type. He truly does love her but doesn’t know how to make her feel she is the one and only.

George is in big trouble with his company. He is about to be indited for fraud and he doesn’t know what to do. His father is portrayed by Jack Nicholson. I haven’t seen Nicholson in a film in years. I am used to seeing his smiling face and dark sunglasses at the Oscar awards. He actually is very funny and the audience loved him. We are not sure at first why the company is in trouble. The hilarious secretary is crazy about George. When George gets fired from work his girlfriend also lets him go.

He meets Lisa and it is the beginning of a strange relationship. Lisa tries to make things work with her boyfriend, George. George being a player continually messes things up and Lisa leaves him.

It becomes a round robin with Lisa seeing her boyfriend and then breaking up. George always seems to be there in the wings waiting. Lisa and George discover that they can really empathize and communicate with one another.

It is a romantic comedy with many funny lines. It also is silly and predictable. As long as you know that this is not a winning combination you may have some light hearted fun. No more and no less.
